Sixth period was cut short today due to Kickapoo scheduling, so we have some catching up to do! I passed out grade reports so everyone could see where they were missing work. I also brokered a deal with each class to redo the Act 2 Anne Frank assignment and folder in order to improve their grade. Complete, well-thought out, correct answers that are capitalized and punctuated are required. We went over the correct answers and format in class today.

The spelling test was given, but I'm not sure many studied for it judging by the grades so far! Students are also to have the MAP practice packet finished by tomorrow. We will check it in class and then turn it in.

Yesterday we had the opportunity to hear a wonderful guest speaker, Mrs. Ilga Vise. Mrs. Vise was a teacher at Drury for many years, but she spoke to us about her experience in Latvia during WWII and her escape from the Russian army and the Nazis. It was very personal and interesting to hear her story. Students are to write a friendly letter expressing their thoughts about her experience and the impact it has on them. They should address how they plan to make an impact and also include a thank you for the effort she expended to come and speak to all five classes. This letter is due tomorrow as we will be working on them to revise and perfect them in class.

Please stay on top of your assignments! I am already having students with missing work and we are barely into the third quarter. I really do not want anyone to fail because they are not turning in work.

Book talk will be Monday, Feb. 9 and the 200 point Anne Frank project is due on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
